Showstopper! The Improvised Musical

I joined the Showstoppers in 2014. Showstopper! The Improvised Musical has been a rip-roaring success since the show started in 2008. It has had eleven sell-out years at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, two West End runs, an Olivier award and a BBC Radio 4 series.

In the show, the audience meets a writer of musicals who is on a deadline – he needs their help. The audience shouts out suggestions of a setting, musical styles and the title of the show and we're off!

We then weave a brand new musical in front of the very eyes of the audience, complete with hilarious characters, fabulous dance routines, beautiful songs, epic story lines, all sprinkled with the pzazz of a Broadway way show.

Showstopper are currently livestreaming shows monthly, check them out here:

If this is what improv can do, you wonder why anyone bothers writing anything down.
The Times
A success story that could run and run and never repeat itself.
Evening Standard
Incredible… so polished it defies belief.

Happily Never After

Happily Never After is the Maydays current main touring show. It’s a twisted, gothic musical tale inspired by Tim Burton and the Brothers Grimm.

We start with one suggestion and then weave a fantastical tale dripping with black comedy, gut-clenchingly playful characters and the amazing musical skills of Joe Samuel doing his best Danny Ellfman homage.

We have done many sell-out shows across Europe. We also perform regularly in Brighton, London, and tour around the UK. For more details visit the Maydays website.

As funny as hell.

Happily Never After is hilarious!

Certainly worthy of Burton.

Blues Hammer

This is my duo with Mr Joe Bill from the US and Mr Joe Samuel from down the road.

Blues Hammer is based on the idea that the best songs in Improvised Musicals tend to be those songs that are rooted in the Blues. So we wondered, what if EVERY song in a musical was a completely different sounding song that’s rooted in The Blues? So that’s what we did.

We made our debut in 2017 at The Arabian Nights Festival in Dubai ,and have played several international festivals since then.

Ten Thousand Million

Ten Thousand Million (full name Ten Thousand Million Love Stories) is my duo improv show with Jules Munns. It is a multi character longform show inspired by audience love stories. A show about love, what it means and how we succeed and fail in it.

We’ve toured extensively around the US, Europe & most recently to Malawi. Our current ambition is to hit every continent.
The perfect balance between realism and comedy slapstick, these two comfortably jumped from one character to another, without ever losing their flow. The show was as funny as it was impressive.
Brighton's Finest
Clever, complicated, and relevant, made by people who practise a lot, and have the kind of spirit which drives them to do what terrifies most people. Like making up an entire play on the spot. And not just a play, but an interesting creative adventurous play, that isn’t like any scripted work I’ve ever seen. Could this be the future of comedy?

Unbridled

Unbridled is an improv show that I direct which came into being as a Nursery Original.

Unbridled is an entirely improvised Jilly Cooper Show. You can expect wild stallions, uncontrollable fillies (and horses too)! Set in an idyllic world of show-jumping and huge country houses, with a variety of animals and posh people behaving very badly while wearing jodhpurs, Unbridled is extremely silly, tongue in cheek and maybe just a little bit sexy.
